About Marsha Drozdoff

When I was 5 years old I remember looking up at the sky and having the profound sense that there was a universal connection amongst us all no matter where we lived and what religions and cultures we embraced. I knew that this would be heart centered and would allow us to honor and respect our shared humanity. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York and studied Psychology, volunteered in hospitals and employed bio-energetics as a path towards healing the body and mind. I also used hypnosis as a means to expand my exploration of human consciousness and human potential. I received my MSW from Hunter School of Social Work and worked in Downstate Medical Center before leaving New York. After moving to Tucson with my husband on July 4, 1980, I continued to study, use and teach numerous mind-body-spirit interventions including relaxation techniques, massage, meditation, yoga, visualization and sensory imagery, cognitive behavioral, art and healing, the use of music for recovery, and drumming. I have used many of these modalities as a Clinical Social Worker in a Medical Center as well as in my private practice. I am blessed and honored to have the opportunity to touch the lives of cancer survivors and others affected by serious health challenges and to support them on their journeys towards wellness, inner transformation and peace of mind.

Despite all of my training and professional experiences, I was unprepared when I personally faced medical challenges between 1997 and 1999; despite working with allopathic physicians and numerous complimentary practitioners, my health conditions continued to worsen. Pain was continually present and I became more disabled and hopeless each passing day until I went to Dr. Andrew’s Weil Integrative Medicine clinic in April 1999; the physician whom I saw thought that Reiki (energy medicine) would make a difference to my condition. I could never have dreamed how Reiki would heal and change my life. I look forward to sharing more of this story with you during your future trainings with me.

Besides working as a clinician with individuals, couples and families, I have been facilitating support groups and educational support programs for over 36 years in Tucson. This is a richness that I bring to my trainings at Desert Reiki Connection. This has also included a monthly Reiki share and weekly Mindfulness and Meditation group.

After becoming a Reiki Master Teacher I was awarded a grant from the Southern Arizona Affiliate for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to teach Reiki to minority women with breast cancer as a modality for stress reduction and relaxation. The following year I was awarded a Komen grant to teach Reiki to families of women with breast cancer to enhance communication and intimacy. To create a sustainable program for those facing health challenges, I created a monthly Reiki Share in the Medical Center for patients, families and staff who are Reiki trained. This work contributed to my receiving the 2007 Social Worker of the Year award from National Association of Social Workers (NASW)- Arizona. My articles about Reiki have been published in Coping and Reiki News Magazine. I have also been privileged to present on Reiki and to teach Reiki classes locally, nationally and globally. In 2012, I was honored to be chosen by the Institute of Noetic Sciences to co-facilitate the monthly Reiki share through Tucson IONS. Upon IONS Tucson closing operations in December 2017, this monthly Reiki/Energy Share now meets monthly under a new name of Tucson Energy Circle. To all my students and colleagues, I bring my deepest respect and passion for Reiki. It is my heartfelt intention to share with you all that I have learned and continue to learn to support you on your own Reiki journey.

Births and New Beginnings

September 2012: Birth and New Beginnings

The launch of my new website has truly been like a birth for me; it also coincides with my birthday which has given me the rich opportunity to reflect on births, new beginnings and Reiki.  I am birthing a new opportunity to communicate with my students and to expand my capabilities as a RMT and healer.  How do you feel about your birth and being birthed into this world?  If you experienced a difficult or traumatic birth and are at least a Level 2 Reiki student, you may want to send Reiki to healing your birth trauma and to experiencing a more welcoming and comfortable beginning.  If you feel challenged by persistent feelings about not being loved or cared for in the way that you had desired as a baby, work with the Reiki Ideal: I give thanks in gratitude for my many blessings; write until you feel complete and then do Reiki on yourself where you are guided to.  Despite any early life disappointments, can you connect with gratitude for having been given life?

If you happen to be pregnant or are blessed to have a family member pregnant, can you connect with the sweetness and potentiality of this new being and send it love, support and deep gratitude for the gift it will soon bring into your own life! In addition, if you are birthing new ideas, programs, events, relationships, do more Reiki on your lower chakras.  Since you may feel unsettled by these changes, work on your root chakra for extra grounding.  The solar plexis, the seat of confidence and personal power, may also desire more Reiki attention.  Remember to clear limiting beliefs in your daily energy clearing and enjoy these new beginnings in your life!

Testimonials

Reiki has been a wonderful addition to the other healing modalities I have used with my patients. A simple technique that can lead to big changes if we are open to new ideas. On a personal note, Reiki has helped me through stressful situations to calmer thoughts and eventually to healing. I would recommend Reiki to anyone who would like to receive the benefits of well being, I have also done Reiki on my animals who respond quite well to the technique. Marsha is professional and compassionate, her heart shines through as a caring and knowledgeable teacher. Julia RN, Yoga Therapist, Reiki I

My experience with Marsha has been one of pure delight. I have found her to be most sincere in her Reiki practice and passionate about sharing the benefits Reiki can bring. Always attentive and gentile Marsha brings with her great compassion and skill as she guides others to realize the potential of Reiki in every individual life that she touches. I have delighted in our every encounter. Sincerely, Jim Hasman, Reiki student.

I was first introduced to Marsha’s healing hands and the power of Reiki when Marsha provided me with relief from a nagging sinus headache many tears ago. Nothing, however, could have prepared me for the amazing physical and emotional impact of the Attunement that Marsha as a teacher and a trainer provided for me in a Level 1 Reiki training session in Sydney in 2005. Since that time Marsha has been a source of unfailing support and care in times of stress both for me and my family – including our dog. Marsha’s dedication and the ongoing reassurance that she so willingly gives are surely the hallmark of a true teacher. Marsha and Reiki have made a real difference to my life. Chris, teacher and Reiki student, Australia.

History of Reiki

Reiki has a profound and interesting history that Marsha shares more fully in Reiki Level 1 and Reiki Level 2 trainings. Reiki is believed to have begun in Tibet several thousand years ago. It became a lost healing art until rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900’s. He began an extensive study of the healing phenomena and studied ancient sutras. He found the answers to some of his questions in the Indian Tibetan sutras, but not the knowledge about how to access this Energy. Following a 21 day meditation on Mt. Kurama-yama, the Holy Mountain, in Japan, Dr. Usui reportedly received the vital information about symbols which allow one to activate and to use this universal life energy for healing.

Dr. Usui called this form of healing Reiki and taught it throughout Japan. He established the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai and was its first president. He also initiated 16 teachers into his Reiki tradition, including Dr. Chujiro Hyashi, who established the first Reiki clinic, the Reiki hand positions and the levels of initiation and training. Mrs. Hawayo Takata was one of his students who brought Reiki to Hawaii in 1937 and following the completion of her training with Dr. Hyashi became the first American Reiki Master Teacher. The lineage was passed onto 22 students, including her granddaughter, Ms. Phyllis Lei Furumoto, our present Usui Grand Reiki Master. My students will be learning the ‘Usui System of Natural Healing’.

Reiki is useful in supporting the treatment of serious illnesses, injuries, emotional disorders, and stress related conditions. It does not replace Allopathic treatment nor prescribed medications. It is recommended that clients inform their physicians that they use Reiki as a healing modality. Many medical centers and clinics are incorporating Reiki into the care of the patient, family and staff.

Since Reiki’s introduction to the Western world, its use has spread dramatically worldwide because of its effectiveness in reducing stress responses and enhancing relaxation and a sense of well being. Research continues to explore the potential benefits and effectiveness of Reiki.
