What is Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese form of healing that is becoming increasingly popular worldwide. What makes Reiki unique is that it is a complete energy system that can be used anytime and anywhere. It is easy to learn and easy to incorporate into one’s life Reiki involves the channeling of the Reiki Ray thru the hand of a practitioner. This modality enhances one’s ability to heal and balance the natural life force energy within the body. It is a holistic, hands-on energy healing system that touches on all levels: body, mind, and spirit. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word representing universal life energy, the  energy which is all around us. It is derived from rei, meaning “universal” or “higher dimension of the soul”, and ki, meaning “vital life force energy”.

Reiki practitioners utilize a pattern of hand positions while channeling energy to heal and reestablish harmony within the individual’s system. Reiki seeks to restore order and vital energy to the mind and body which have become unbalanced by trauma, stress, illness and unhealthy behaviors.

Reiki energy has several basic effects: it brings about deep relaxation, potentially opens and releases energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of healing universal life energy, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body.

Reiki is a touch therapy that is gentle, non-invasive and non-manipulative. The recipient remains fully clothed and generally receives the treatment while lying on a Reiki table or sitting in a chair. In Reiki, although the practioner places his or her hands on or above the recipient, it is the recipient who draws the energy as needed. Thus, the individual receiving the Reiki takes an active part in the healing process, and responsibility for his or her healing. The recipient expresses his or her own intention for the Reiki during each session.
